Madison, WI
Started walk 4:20 p.m.
It was sunny and clouds were rolling in when Chance and I started the one-hundredth day of our walk.
The afternoon was very breezy and it was difficult to keep a hat properly situated on one's head.
Near the beginning of the walk we came upon a man practicing yoga in a secluded grassy area near
the pond where we often see painted turtles and renegade ducks.
Being Easter Sunday there were scores of people walking an enjoying the warm afternoon sun. The
people by the duck pond were picnicking and taking photographs of their kids dressed in new Easter outfits.
During the walk we were passed by walkers, strollers, bikers
(including our republican congressman) and runners. There were fishermen on land and in the water.
Also, a lone kayaker replaced the usual waterbeast that normally reside in the waters around the island.
The wind was a constant howl which ironically muffled the sounds of all the humankind around us. The wind noise,
in effect, made me feel isolated and alone. It was very peaceful.
However, a casualty of the wind was an old dead oak tree. This snarly oak withstood the winter storms only to fall
to an April gust. It's rotted root system, long decayed, was unearthed and it's brittle, hollow limbs were scattered
across the landscape including sections of the boardwalk. Chance took a small limb as a momento and carried it 90 percent of
the way home until he tired of it in favor of a young green branch.
