The Fifty-First Day of The Walk
IslandMadison, WI

Started walk at 6:15 a.m.

As I walked out the door I was hoping for a repeat of yesterday where we had ice fog. Whereas it wasn't so noticeable in the morning during our walk, as the day progressed toward noon, the effect was enhanced and there was a spectacular lace crystal coating on all the trees and bushes. What's more, the roads were still safe and driving in the city was unaffected. It was truly a Winter Wonderland. But alas, yesterday's magic was not to be duplicated and we were greeted with a gray overcast sky with light fog as we started our walk.

The temperature was mild and still there were few birds to be seen. The crows could be heard from a distance but I didn't actually see them on the walk. Perhaps I wasn't paying attention and was taking their heckling presence for granted.

We saw a walker and one runner. The ducks were swiming around the island. It was a relaxing February walk.

Coffee -- Costa Rican -- Good. Coffee Cake Today -- Crumbly -- OK but not satisfying.

I'm told that there will not be anymore cranberry muffins. The coffee shop is now baking their own pastry goods. Sigh! If the raisin bundt muffin I had yesterday was any indication of the quality of these products, I am sure to become a thinner but less happy person.
