The Thirty-Eighth Day of The Walk
IslandMadison, WI

Started walk at 6:35 a.m.

It was foggy this morning and the temperature was hovering around freezing. The first wild life Chance and I saw was a little, fat field mouse that appeared trapped between two icy snowbanks. I kept Chance from attacking the little fur ball and proceeded on the walk.

We could hear a woodpecker pecking away in the woods and saw a big jaye by the duck pond. The path was muddy in places but it was still easy footing. However, my weight caused the frozen, compacted snow on the wooden boardwalk to break-off into large chunks and separate like an earthquake.

The island was surrounded by a foggy mist and the area looked very peaceful. I could hear song birds in the distance and the expected quacking of ducks.

I thought that I had lost my camera's lens cap but later found it at home.

On the return walk we once again saw the little field mouse. It is probably sick because it should have been able to easily escape its snowbank prison. Also, I saw that it did not run from some school children that were in front of us. Hawk food!

Coffee -- Costa Rican -- OK. Muffin today -- Cranberry -- OK.
