Madison, WI
Started walk at 6:20 a.m.
A light, steady rain was falling and the sidewalks were very slippery and dangerous to walk on. Even Chance's
tiger-like paws lacked adequate gripping traction and were slipping on the black concrete ice. The dirt path with its packed
yet melting snow was greatly welcomed.
The weather was mild and temperatures are expected to be in the high 30's. Is this the January thaw? Hope so.
About 15 mallards were swimming near the island in the open water that's rapidly expanding past Chance's recent mishap. I don't know if these ducks
are the "duck pond" ducks or if they represent a different flock.
Yesterday, when I was driving into work, I saw the Hawk in a tree near the road overlooking a collection pond that was created for the
wetlands. The Hawk was more active than I've seen it on my walks. It was flapping its wings and craning its neck -- obviously look seriously for some food. I looked for it on
this morning's walk but the Hawk was no where to be seen.
Coffee -- Costa Rican -- Excellent. Muffin today -- Cranberry -- Excellent.
