Summer

June 23, 1998
3rd Day of Summer
Sunrise at 5:19 a.m.
Sunset at 8:41 p.m.
The One Hundred and Sixtieth Day of The Walk
Island

Madison, WI

Started walk 6:45 a.m.

The days are getting shorter. Warm and sunny. The grass was very wet with dew.

Day-Lilies bordered the path where the Dames Rocket made such a showing this Spring. I saw Common Mullein by the Duck Pond, tall sunflowers in the prairie, what I now believe to be a coneflower in the prairie, and also a clump of yellow flowers overhanging the road curb kissing the passing cars. The plant was low to the ground and the yellow flowers were rather large and bright. I later saw some of the same flowers along the beltline which is a limited access freeway.

Coffee--Costa Rican--Good. Muffin--Blackberry/oatmeal.
