The One Hundred and Eighteenth Day of The Walk
IslandMadison, WI

Started walk 6:40 a.m.

The morning was overcast and damp. In fact, it was drizzling. May Day!

The spotted color of the redbud was in rich contrast to the dullness of the "almost blooming."

I saw a grey heron in the marsh waters west of the duck pond. It was sleeping perched on a dead, overturned tree in the middle of the marsh with its head down and its beak tucked into one of its wings. I stood watching it for a few minutes because I was a little confused. It looked like a barn owl from a distance and it wasn't until its head stirred that I could see its long beak and the jagged feathers protruding from the back of its head.

Few ducks actually in the duck pond. Someone has picked up most of the litter.

Coffee -- Costa Rican - Excellent. Poppyseed Blueberry Muffin -- the best I've had -- Excellent.
