The Seventy-Fifth Day of The
Walk
Madison, WI
Started walk 6:15 a.m.
It was cold this morning. A light snow fell during the night coating the sidewalks and trails.
The sky was blue and the sun was rising. The moon was visible on the western horizon.
It has been cold enough during the last week to let a thin layer of ice form on the water.
Wherever there was open water I could see ice fog.
I saw the hawk flying near the boardwalk. It landed in a tree and was very alive and alert. It didn't
take long to see why. Heckle and Jeckle were harassing it. Whereas I'm pretty confident that I'm seeing the
same hawk, it is very difficult to confirm if Heckle and Jeckle are the same crows. The crow roused the hawk
from its perch and proceeded to dive bomb and peck at the hawk's back. I could clearly see the hawk take a few
hits as it retreated across the lake to safety.
