The Fifty-Sixth Day of The Walk
IslandMadison, WI

Started walk at 6:35 a.m.

As the eskimos have numerous names for snow, so should Wisconsinites have more than one name for overcast skies. Today, the sky was warmcast/lightcast.

Only two geese were occupying the little island this morning. The rest of the flock must have moved on. As I walked 20 yards past the island, I heard the two geese honk loudly and and then saw them fly past, side-by-side, low just above the water, with their wing tips spashing as they accellerated enough for a clean take-off.

I saw what looked like a doe in the prairie. At first I thought it was a large fox. Then I thought coyote. The fact is, I'm not sure what it was. It was big, had fur and was not a cat or dog.

Coffee -- Costa Rican -- Good. Muffin -- Oatmeal/Blackberry -- hot -- good.
